Stembridge Tower Mill is the last surviving thatched windmill in England.
The windmill was built in 1822 from materials from an earlier mill which stood nearby. It was damaged by storms in 1897 and thereafter run via steam. It was last used commercially in 1910.
In 1969 Professor H. H. Bellot left the windmill, house, orchard, and garden to the National Trust in his will.
This beautiful mill is located in High Ham, about three miles north-east of the town of Langport, on a high point in the heart of the Somerset Levels.
It is in the care of the National Trust and can be viewed from the outside between 10 am and 5pm every day between March and November. The interior is opened several times a year. Full details can be found on the National Trust website.
